Rear-view mirrors

I got in my car the other day after my son, proud owner of a new license, had driven.   My seat and mirrors all needed readjusted.  It got me to thinking about some people who say the past isn't important and that we only need to look and move ahead.  While a part of me agrees with this, I know in my spirit that our past affects us more than we care to admit.  Which makes me wonder about how much time we should spend dealing with the past.

Are our pasts like a rear-view mirror?  Do they warrant some attention?  I think so.  May you spend some time this New Year's Eve, thinking about the past.  Not to live or stay there.  Look and reflect so that your  parking lot maneuvers (everyday living),  turning, changing lanes and acceleration forward can be done with knowledge of obstacles that may need addressed for more confident  and productive driving (living).

What are you taking?

So, we're headed to Peru for a two year mission trip and told that we need to pack everything we'll need in two suitcases.  That's two suitcases for two years.  Well, we have a 4 bedroom house.  So, I've been trying to think about what I really want in these two suitcases.  In fact, every time I go to the store now, I have to filter it thru these two suitcases.  It has really cut down on my spending, which makes me think...Is God up there trying to get our attention?  Hey, you're coming to heaven soon, do you really need all that "stuff"?

Council of the Holy Ones One thing I really love, is being in on discussions where important decisions are being made.  I love hearing the different ideas and I love trying to help come up with the best solution(s). With that on my mind, I read Psalm 89:7 this week....it is now one of my new favorite verses. "In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared, he is more awesome than all who surround him." Can you see it?!  I can picture the "holy council" meeting and in walks (or breezes) God...if they fear him and think He is awesome, how much more should I?   The  smartest council ( aka the council of the holy ones)   still looks to God....what an amazing thought!!  How little I look to Him for my answers.  I think that if I have considered everything there is to think about than my logical decision is best....This verse reminds me who I need to listen to for input.
